The Canadian government has launched the Canada Strong Pass to encourage domestic tourism by offering free entry to all national parks, marine conservation areas, and historic sites managed by Parks Canada. The pass also includes a 25% discount on camping fees, free access to national museums for children, and discounted VIA Rail tickets for young adults. 

While the initiative aims to keep Canadians traveling within the country, some have expressed concerns about the potential for increased visitor numbers to strain already crowded sites and fragile ecosystems. The discounts and free access are automatically applied and available until early September.

It's definitely well timed with the heightened sense of patriotism that we have right now. We won't go to the United States. Woohoo! I love that. I think it needs to be free. But not all park visitors are sold. If we stop paying as we use it, so who will pay for that? There are concerns the extra traffic could damage fragile ecosystems and add stress to places already overrun like Banff, Alberta. We are already full in the summer in terms of our parking lots and our sidewalks and so this will just continue to exacerbate that pressure that we're seeing. The pass also gives children free access to national museums and free via rail service when traveling with an adult. Young people aged 18 to 24 get a 25% discount on train tickets. This will encourage Canadians to explore their backyard and beyond. There's no need to register. The summer discounts automatically apply.
