I thought if the whole house has no power, then it must be something bigger. Then I looked at my phone, it was in satellite mode, which was also strange. Around 50,000 households were affected. Berlin's electricity grid operator said the outage was caused by a fire that burned several cables near a power station in Lichterfelde, one of four blacked-out neighbourhoods. Stromnetz Berlin also said the outage resembled a politically motivated attack and that it will take days to repair the damage. When we asked one of the partner companies to help us restore the power supply and described the situation, they said it would take weeks for such a repair. We've now agreed to do everything we can to get it done within five days. Police are investigating the incident as a suspected arson attack and say they have received a letter claiming responsibility for the power outage without naming the group. But German media reports say the far-left Volcano Group, which has claimed several such attacks in recent years, was behind the letter.
