ICE stated that flashbang devices were used when community members surrounded their vehicles, and that officers followed established safety protocols. 

According to a search warrant, ICE began investigating the restaurant after receiving tips in 2020 and January 2025. The agency reported that 19 employees possessed fraudulent green cards, with seven lacking legal work authorization. Four employees were detained, and the restaurant is working with attorneys to support those affected.

Another tip was received in January 2025. ICE says their investigation found that 19 of the employees had fraudulent green cards, which is nearly half of all the employees at the restaurant, the search warrant shows. The affidavit said seven of those employees did not have lawful permanent residence in the U.S. and were not U.S. citizens and were working, quote, without legal work authorization in violation of federal criminal law. Congressman Scott Peters, who represents the district, told CNN that four employees were detained. The restaurant said in a statement that they are working closely with their attorneys to locate and support the detained employees and their families. CNN has reached out to the restaurant owner and their attorney for comment.
