And for Hezbollah, Tabatabaei's death marks the first killing at this senior level since October 2024, when the war with Israel killed many top commanders, including two of the group's secretary generals. The group is trying to delay any full-scale war, part of a broader recovery plan, as it rebuilds its capabilities and tries to prevent Lebanon sliding into another devastating conflict.
