This shift comes as concerns about wildfire risks and climate change prompt many towns, especially those in fire-prone regions, to seek safer and cleaner alternatives. 

Drone displays, already seen in cities like Marseille, Nice, and Bastia, offer artistic and dynamic storytelling opportunities. Some towns have cancelled fireworks altogether, while Paris is experimenting with a hybrid show featuring both drones and fireworks. The new approach allows for creative displays and improved safety, marking a significant change in how France marks its national holiday.

Across France a new tradition is taking flight. Every July 14th the skies over France come alive. For over 130 years it's been the tradition. But today it's under threat from rising fire risks and a changing climate. Now a new kind of spectacle is emerging. Drones moving like stars choreographed with precision. We saw them in Marseille for the Olympic flame, in Nice and Bastia. It was amazing, especially the 3D Lion. In places like Toulon fireworks are out and drones are in. Unlike fireworks, drones allow for storytelling. Artistic, creative and often more precise and dynamic. Drones are safer, cleaner and now essential in regions where fires are a real danger. From the south to Alsace, many towns have cancelled fireworks altogether. Paris is trying a hybrid, drones and fireworks together. They can handle winds up to 10 metres a second, about 36 kilometres an hour, but that's the limit. A thousand drones will lift off for a show dedicated to Brazil, a fitting new tradition for the city of light.
