Flood watches are in effect across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic stretching from Massachusetts to Virginia, including places like Hartford, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC and Richmond.

Authorities have issued flood watches across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, covering areas from Massachusetts to Virginia. Major urban centers such as Hartford, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Richmond are included in the alert. 

Significant rises in creeks and streams have already prompted evacuations in parts of Pennsylvania, with some waterways rising by up to 10 feet in a few hours. The main concern is flash flooding due to slow-moving thunderstorms and high rainfall rates, with the risk expected to persist along the coast and into the middle of the week.

And notice they've upped the chances now to the likelihood for flash flooding. We've even had a significant rises on creeks and streams overnight last night and even this morning. For parts of Pennsylvania, there have been some evacuations for some communities where we have seen creeks rise upwards of 10 feet or 10 feet in the last couple of hours. DC Philly just South of New York City. You're in that likelihood for flash flooding. Yes, these storms could have a severe component with them, mainly in the form of damaging winds, but it's the flash flood risk that's most concerning. There's where the storms are right now, so the Hudson River Valley places here in the Lehigh Valley in the Poconos. Look at this though, where you have those yellows, oranges and even reds. That's where you have high amounts of precipitable water. We've got air coming in off the Atlantic. We have our front, which is aiding lift and you're going to get storms to fire up and trigger here as we get into the late morning and certainly early afternoon hours. Look at the setup here and these are slow moving thunderstorms. There's not a lot of steering flow because our boundaries actually stalling out a little bit and that could allow for prolific rainfall rates. We had flooding, you know, maybe a month two ago in Western Maryland. This area certainly in in position to get heavy rain and the potential for flooding again and again. Notice the likelihood for flash flooding here around DC, Annapolis, Baltimore, down into the Jersey Shore. This will be well into the evening and overnight hours. Tomorrow we do dry out further off towards the West, but right along the coast. So from Long Island southward into the mid Atlantic. We're going to stay stormy Lynette, and that means that flash flood potential certainly continues for the middle part of the week as well.
