The Dutch Renaissance-style building was being renovated to restore it to its former glory, but it was the scaffolding and coverings that ultimately hampered emergency services, allowing the fire to take hold and its celebrated spire to topple. It's terrible. I can't put into words what the Stock Exchange means for us as a building and as a symbol for Copenhagen. The four dragons are a part of our skyline, and a lot of people from Copenhagen walk past it every day. It's a 400-year-old cultural history that has been lost, not only in Copenhagen, but also in Denmark. No longer an active stock exchange, the building is headquarters to the Danish Chamber of Commerce. There were no reports of injuries, but there is huge concern for its many priceless artworks. It's an office building, but it's a very historic building, dating back to 1620. So it's a very historic building, and a lot of old, valuable paintings inside the building as well. So they are trying to rescue all that's possible. Most could only stand and stare, but some passers-by helped emergency crew rescue some of the historic paintings and artefacts from the building. It was actually the most impressive hall in Copenhagen, maybe in Denmark. The woodwork and the golden elements all around and small details. We lost something big today. We did. As the flames receded, it became evident much of the damage is to the front of the building, with the rear damage being less severe. Too early to tell if this piece of Danish history can be salvaged.
