The funeral was held at Junction Oval where Ben watched his Victorian heroes play. They came in their hundreds, many in club colours, they spilled out of the Shane Warne stand, Ben's grieving family speaking so proudly of their boy who brought only joy. Some people count their years, but you made your years count. More than three weeks on from Ben being killed by a cricket ball in the nets, his father urged those he's left behind to keep wielding the willow. To all Benny's cricket mates, keep playing this bloody great game he loved. Ben's family comforted by the thought he's now in sporting heaven. Cricket with warning and Phil Hughes will be high on the list. Not just a lover of cricket, Ben could play. Nearly selected Benny for the ones. The selection committee had to remind me he was only 13. Handy on the footy field as well. Preliminary final that he basically won off his own boot. But with far more to offer than just sporting prowess. If we could all be a little bit more like Ben in the way we conduct our lives, then the world would be a better place. Now that's some sort of legacy. Imagine if he'd had more than 17 years. We are so proud and love you endlessly. Great knock Benny. Well played son.
