Patrice Lumumba, born in 1925 in what was then the Belgian Congo, played a significant role in the country's anti-colonial movement and became its first prime minister after independence in 1960. His leadership and nationalist stance made him a target for Western intelligence agencies, and he was killed in 1961 by Katangan separatists with the complicity of Belgium and the CIA. Lumumba remains an important figure in Congolese and African history.

His Congolese National Movement Party won the country's first elections after its independence in 1960. Lumumba became the country's first prime minister at 34 years old. But his nationalist beliefs and proximity with the Soviet Union made him a target of Western intelligence services. He was killed in January 1961 by Katangan separatists with the complicity of Belgium and the CIA. Lumumba remains a leading figure in Congolese and African history.
