On Monday, a river that had earlier overflowed started swelling again, causing fresh panic among people who had returned home to pick up the pieces. Even a little rain now brings fear to residents. After light showers on that day turned deadly. Many unsuspecting people were swept away by the storm. The village was hit by a cloudburst, a rare weather phenomenon in which more than 100 millimetres of rain falls within an hour in a small area. The monsoon season from June to September delivers about three quarters of South Asia's annual rainfall, but climate change is causing extreme weather events to become more frequent. Glacial warming is also causing glaciers to melt and release more water in northern Pakistan. Rising temperatures are making air more moist, which holds more water. When it moves upward, it leads to heavy downpours. Three thousand glacier lakes are already existing in Pakistan's north, out of which more than 33 glacier lakes are on the verge of outburst. More than 600 people have been killed across the country in recent weeks, with a new flash flood caused by torrential rains resulting in more fatalities in Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Monday.
