The operation, which aims to detain 5,000 individuals, is expanding beyond New Orleans, with sightings of enforcement actions as far as Baton Rouge and reports that it may reach Mississippi. Critics, including state and local officials, have called the operation dehumanizing and racially motivated, while federal authorities maintain it is intended to promote public safety.

Immigration activists are behind a protest against ICE and Border Patrol agents. This, as a federal immigration crackdown dubbed Catahoula Crunch, continues on the streets of New Orleans. CBS News national reporter Katie Weiss joins us live at that protest. Katie, thank you for your time today. What have you heard and seen so far? Has this protest been peaceful? Good morning, Mugo. Yes, so far things have been pretty subdued in comparison to some of the other protests that we saw over the weekend. There were at least four different protests throughout the New Orleans metro region. People just really up in arms against this operation dubbed Catahoula Crunch. And just to give you some context, the Catahoula Hound Dog was previously used during the times of slavery as a dog to hunt and chase slaves here in the South. So a lot of people take issue with the name that this operation has. Speakers here say that people are being stolen off the street. Take a look at what is going on now behind me. People speaking. We've got several local and state politicians who are just demanding that Customs and Border Patrol end this operation, saying that that absences from schools are escalating. Houses of children are missing school because they're afraid of family separation. They're calling the CBP's actions dehumanizing. In fact, one state senator who spoke today called it a racist agenda action that is doing nothing other than disturbing hardworking people and their families, and that there are not 5,000 immigrants here who are violent. That 5,000 number is the goal that was previously stated in terms of how many people Customs and Border Patrol aimed to detain during this Operation Catahoula Crunch. They say that they stand for public safety, but this is not the way. Katie, have you you have reporting that the operation is expanding outside of New Orleans, right? So where else are people seeing CBP agents out there? Sure. So I've been speaking with several activist sources, community members here in the region, and I've been monitoring also social media sites where a citizen journalist are even taking and taking videos and posting, you know, different operations that they're seeing as part of this grand, you know, overall arching Operation Catahoula Crunch. We even saw recently a video of men yesterday being chased down at a muddy construction site as far as Baton Rouge. It's a couple hours away from here in New Orleans. So we're starting to see the operation fan out, which is what was expected when this operation was first announced. It was indicated that it would be reaching as far as Mississippi.
