Attorney General Ken Paxton has obtained a temporary restraining order against fundraising efforts supporting Democrats and has filed legal actions in multiple states to enforce civil arrest warrants. The Texas Senate has advanced the redistricting legislation, which may further impact the political landscape in several regions.

The groups across North Texas spent the start of their weekend rallying against redistricting. Good evening, everybody. I'm Casey Stegall. Thanks for being here tonight. One event was here in Dallas at Dealey Plaza. The groups Invisible Dallas and Yellow Rose Resistance organized that rally in support of Texas House Democrats who broke quorum to avoid a vote last week on the new congressional maps. Texas Republicans say the new maps will add five more Republican seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Democrats meantime have fled to Chicago and New York, speaking out against the process, calling it unconstitutional gerrymandering. Protesters we talked to say they want to send a clear message that government works for the people. I feel like it's been a good impact in terms of raising the awareness and sending that kind of visual message to Austin that we're not just going to stand by and let them do whatever they want to do. They work for us. So similar sentiments were brought up at a different rally across the GOP against the GOP push to redraw some of the Texas congressional districts. This rally happened in Fort Worth and hosted by former Democratic Congressman Beto O'Rourke and his grassroots political organization. O'Rourke has found himself in the middle of a legal clash with Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. Paxton now asking a new court to help compel Democrats back to work. Fox 4's Amelia Jones attended today's event and is standing by live with that part of the story. Hi, Amelia. Hi there, Casey. It was a packed house this afternoon in Fort Worth. The energized crowd showed up to support the Texas House Democrats and their fight against redistricting. Meanwhile, Texas House Republicans have taken the battle to the courts to try and get Democrats back to Austin. Saturday afternoon, people filled the Ridgely Theater in Fort Worth for a rally against redistricting. Democrat representatives from across the state, along with Tarrant County Commissioner Elisa Simmons, joined former Democrat Congressman Beto O'Rourke on stage. These aren't just lines on a map or red and blue or things on a budget. While some Texas House Democrats made an appearance virtually. We're here. We're fighting for y'all. We're fighting for all Americans, but we couldn't do it without you. The event was sponsored by Powered by People, an organization founded by O'Rourke and recently the center of a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Ken Paxton. The lawsuit claims that the organization is fundraising for the Texas House Democrats to help pay the $500 a day fine representatives are racking up to break quorum. The Tarrant County District Court ruled in favor of the AG's office and issued a temporary restraining order on the organization, which puts a pause on fundraising efforts. Paxton called this a win. I was sued by Ken Paxton not once, but twice this week, but we didn't react. We didn't respond. We didn't defend. We took this fight right back to him and we sued him in court in El Paso, Texas. Saturday, the AG's office filed a legal complaint in California to try and get civil arrest warrants enforced and bring House Democrats back to work. Earlier this week, Paxton did something similar in a court in Illinois for the lawmakers who are in Chicago. Paxton has also requested the Texas Supreme Court to vacate the seats of at least 15 Democrats. This guy and these Republicans are running scared. They're in full panic mode. That is why Greg Abbott is trying to remove these House Democrats from office. The Republican push for redistricting is an effort to add more Republican seats to maintain the party's slim U.S. House majority. The proposed map showed Democrats could lose seats in North Texas, Houston, Austin and South Texas. These House Democrats and other critics argued that the proposed maps would suppress minority voters. It is sad that on the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, that we're still having to deal with this. But as long as the likes of Donald Trump keep getting elected into this office, we are going to have to keep fighting. Another strategy mentioned at today's rally was pushing Democrat states like Illinois and California to do redistricting of their own. Last week, the Texas Senate passed redistricting legislation out of their committee and it will move to the full floor next week. Casey, back to you.
