The company aims to have AI-driven pricing in place for about 20 percent of its domestic routes by the end of the year, up from the current 3 percent.

Industry experts note that this shift is primarily intended to benefit the airline and its shareholders by maximizing seat sales and revenue. While there may be occasional discounts to fill unsold seats, the broader impact on travelers remains uncertain. The move is expected to set a trend for other airlines, as the industry often adopts new technologies rapidly.

He's a senior aviation reporter for The Points Guy. Sean, thanks so much for being here. So I guess as a flyer, I just want to know, will this benefit flyers, if at all, and how? Yeah, I don't know what type of benefit we're going to see for ourselves. It could be some cases where maybe Delta is trying to sell some seats that it knows it can't fill on a particular flight, so they drop that discount. Maybe it's just enough to get you to buy that, I don't know, last minute flight to Los Angeles. But, you know, airlines, their goal is to fill every seat and it is to get you to pay as much as possible for each one of those seats. So this is more good news for the company than it is actually for flyers. I think the shareholders, I think that's going to be more kind of what they're going for in this particular case. They're calling it like this super analyst that's working around the clock. I see. OK, so how exactly does this work compared to what we have right now with that dynamic pricing? Yeah, we talk about dynamic pricing. I'm kind of thinking about this as sort of dynamic pricing on steroids. You know, airline pricing has long been determined by, you know, kind of a combination of these algorithms, these human analysts that are working on just to set these fares. We all know, you know, you check a fare one day, you come back the next day, it's a lot higher, maybe it's a lot lower. I think that dynamic pricing is about to get a lot more dynamic here with Delta. And do you see this spreading to other companies as well? Where does this go from here? I mean, you just look around, you see all of these different companies that are adopting A.I. in different ways. And the airline industry certainly is an industry where, you know, one airline does one thing, another one then tends to follow suit. Look at the check bag fees. You know, we all saw them raise check bag fees last year. I think it's safe to say you're going to see this a lot more across the industry. This could end up being the norm, you think? I think we're going to see it be a lot more normal. I mean, Delta, you know, three percent today of flights, 20 percent by the end of the year, potentially growing fast. I just want to be able to fly for cheap at this point. I mean, I don't care how it happens. I just want it to happen. Well, we talk about points. The points guy, we're all about those points still, you know, is a great way, especially this summer. We're seeing a lot of great deals, especially if you're willing to fly like in coach in August, September, a lot of great deals out there right now. All right. I'll go looking, Sean.
