Authorities report that over 11,600 people remain in shelters as a result of the hurricane. The storm also caused significant damage in Jamaica and Cuba, leaving a widespread trail of destruction across the region.

In Haiti, the death toll from Hurricane Melissa has climbed to more than two dozen, with several still missing. Most of the devastation is in the southern town of Petit Guayave, where 80 homes have been destroyed. One father says he lost four children, the youngest just a month old. I had four children at home, a month old baby, a seven-year-old, an eight-year-old, and another who was about to turn four. All four are gone. Authorities say more than 11,600 people remain in shelters because of Melissa. The hurricane has left a trail of death and destruction after tearing through Jamaica and Cuba too.

Israeli planes and tanks pounded areas in eastern Gaza on Thursday (October 30), Palestinian residents and witnesses said, a day after Israel said it remained committed to a U.S.-backed ceasefire despite launching more lethal bombardments in the territory.
