The camp, home to civilians, was previously considered a tranquil area.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 35,000 Palestinians since October. The situation remains dire as fighting between Hamas and Israeli soldiers intensifies in northern Gaza. In the south, the Israeli army is advancing on Rafa, which they consider one of Hamas's last strongholds. The UN reports that around 800,000 Palestinians, many already displaced, have been forced to flee Rafa, seeking refuge in increasingly unsafe conditions.

On the political front, discussions between the White House's national security advisor and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu focused on reducing civilian casualties. Talks between Washington and Riyadh involve a post-war plan where Saudi Arabia would recognize Israel and, in return, Israel would agree to a roadmap towards Palestinian statehood. However, Netanyahu's office stated that the immediate focus remains on current military operations and maintaining security in Gaza.

All that remains is a pile of rubble. What once was homes, there is now only dust, broken concrete and heartbreak. As rescue workers removed dozens of bodies. No one was expecting this. This is a tranquil area. All the residents are civilians. No one here belonged to factions or militias. No one. All across the Gaza Strip, the horror of war is felt daily. Over 35,000 Palestinians have lost their lives since the fighting began in October. In central Gaza, Palestinians lay to rest their loved ones. Many of them children. In northern Gaza, fighting between Hamas and Israeli soldiers has intensified. In the southern part, in Rafa, the Israeli army says they're advancing on what they see as the last bastion of Hamas. One of the last remaining places of refuge for civilians, the UN says some 800,000 Palestinians, many already displaced, have been forced to flee Rafa. Now the question always is where to go. And we keep saying there is absolutely nowhere to go because there is absolutely no safe place in the Gaza Strip. On the political front, the White House's national security advisor met with Benjamin Netanyahu to put pressure on Israel to lower civilian casualties and to brief the Israeli prime minister on the U.S.'s talks with Saudi Arabia. Washington and Riyadh were discussing an ambitious post-war plan. One where Saudi Arabia would recognize Israel and in exchange Israel would agree to a roadmap towards Palestinian statehood with the Palestinian Authority governing Gaza. But for Netanyahu, that's out of the question. His office said it's focusing on its military operations and that it will maintain security in Gaza for an open-ended amount of time.
