Daniel's Law, a public child sex offender register named in honor of Daniel Morkham, has been launched in Queensland and has already seen significant engagement, with 105,000 people accessing the website within five days. The register allows parents to check if individuals with unsupervised access to their children are reportable offenders and also provides a locality tool to see offenders living in their area.

Authorities reported that 60 applications have been made, resulting in four identifications of reportable offenders. While there has been one instance of misuse leading to charges, officials expressed satisfaction with the overall responsible use of the system. The Morkham family is now advocating for the adoption of Daniel's Law in other Australian states and territories.

Daniel's Law, named in honour of murdered Sunshine Coast teenager Daniel Morkham, is a new public child sex offender register in Queensland, giving parents critical information. That's 60 applications, in four instances we got a hit on a reportable offender where someone either was thinking about letting their children have contact, perhaps connected to that person in some way. That detection came from Tier 3 searches, where parents can apply to see if people who have unsupervised contact with their children are child sex offenders. People known to the individuals who've reached into us, and they're known by name. I think Queenslanders want to know who have access to their kids. A majority of the searches however came from Tier 2 of the system, a locality tool which enables families to see offenders who live in their area. The system has been misused once, with a person now facing charges. That breach was about releasing information, but again out of tens of thousands of people accessing I'm really impressed. The next step for the Morkhams, taking this law to every state and territory. Come on New South Wales, come on Victoria, and of course the other states, let's get behind it. Geoff Coat, 10 News.
