Following a brief adjournment, apologies were made and comments withdrawn, but calls for improved mutual respect and disciplinary action have intensified. Libertarian Councillor Steve Christou is advocating for a review of the council's Code of Conduct and intervention by the Office of Local Government, emphasizing the need for professional behaviour in council chambers.

You raising your voice is not going to intimidate me. Councillor. I'm not intimidated. Wednesday night's eyebrow-raising exchange at Cumberland City Council now circulating online. Quite frankly, it makes the Council look like a bunch of bullying thugs. The behaviour of Councillors was completely unacceptable. The community deserves better, and I will not tolerate it in my chamber. It was sparked by an interjection from Labor Councillor Diane Coleman after independent Councillor Ahmed Ouff deviated from and backtracked on the agenda. I am a Councillor elected to represent the people of the Council! Then show respect so that you can be respected. When I'm talking, you face down. 20 years of politics. This is the worst kind of outburst I have ever seen. I personally had to console a member of the public that was in the gallery. She was crying. After that, I was emotionally shocked. I feel scared. After a 15-minute break, it resumed with an apology and comment withdrawal, though both today doubling down on the need for mutual respect. For far too long, women in leadership have just had to put up with this. But, you know, it's about time we all stood up and said enough is enough. Has nothing to do with the agenda. So if I'm dealing with any Councillor next time, even if I'm interrupted or harassed, definitely I will use another word here. Libertarian Councillor Steve Christou is calling for disciplinary action, pushing for his fellow Cumberland City Councillors to review the Code of Conduct and for the Office of Local Government to step in.
