Here in Belém, on the edge of the Amazon, COP 30 is taking place, and the world is once again talking about the climate crisis. But this time, Africa's youth are making sure their voices are heard. They've travelled to the heart of global climate negotiations with one powerful message, no more empty promises. I believe that this COP is going to be one of the wins for the global South, basically because of when you hear the COP presidency, the president of Brazil, and I mean, it's something promising. But again, we've had promising speeches before, but I'm just hopeful because at the end of the day, the crisis continues getting worse. Soina knows the cost of inaction in Kenya deforestation drives drought and hunger. That's why she's demanding transparency, accountability and action. Whether we're talking about climate finance, whether we're talking about carbon trading, I think it's important to bring out elements of transparency and accountability. At the opening, Brazil's President Lula issued a stark warning. Climate change is no longer a threat to the future. It's a tragedy of the present. For activists like Ilda Nakabuyi, the world must listen to young voices and include them in real solutions. COP30 is a pivotal moment because this is where the Paris Agreement makes 10 years. I am here to raise the voices of all African people and to represent the communities that cannot be here, communities that are affected by the climate crisis, which they did not create. Nakabuyi is fighting against the massive oil pipeline that threatens Uganda water and biodiversity. For Africa's youth, COP30 is more than another climate summit.
