The decision comes after lawsuits from environmental groups and the Mikosuke tribe, who argue the site threatens protected wetlands and may cause toxic runoff. The pause is intended to give the court time to determine if the facility violates federal environmental laws.

The temporary order does not affect the ongoing detention and processing of migrants at the center, which can hold up to 3,000 people. The facility, managed by the Florida Division of Emergency Management, remains operational. Separate legal action has also been taken regarding detainee access to legal counsel and due process at the site.
