Ukrainian women and men will see in the new year for the fourth time in a row under the most difficult circumstances. Many of them without electricity, in a hail of missiles and in fear for friends and family. And this is not a distant war that does not concern us. Continuing on the theme of cohesion, Merz had a message for all sections of German society. Our society is aging and the baby boomers are now starting their well-deserved retirement. In the coming year it will therefore be essential to create a new balance in our social security systems, one that takes the concerns of all generations into account in a fair manner. Ending his address, the Chancellor continued with a message of hope for the year ahead. 2026 can therefore be a year of new beginnings. That is the prospect that I want to offer you and all of us. 2026 can be a decisive year for our country and for Europe. It can be a year in which Germany and Europe, with new strength, reconnect with decades of peace, freedom and prosperity. With this in mind, I wish you a happy new year and all the best for 2026.
