A 41-year-old man was arrested in Canberra's north after police found 15 suspected pipe bombs on footpaths and in parks around Lake Ginindera in Belconnen. Authorities stated that there is no indication of terrorism and believe all devices placed outside have been located following an extensive search.

Federal police raided the suspect's property, recovering items allegedly used to make the devices, some of which were reportedly stolen from a local hardware store. The man was apprehended in Gungahlin after a public tip-off and faces charges including unauthorised manufacture of a prohibited dangerous substance, possessing a prohibited weapon, and theft. Police have not ruled out further charges.

At this time we haven't identified any motivation, but we are confident that it's not related to terrorism. 15 explosives were this week found on footpaths and in parks around Lake Ginindera in Belconnen, some undetonated. We've done an extensive search of the area and we're confident we've located all the ones that have been placed outside. Federal police yesterday raided the accused's Belconnen property. Though he wasn't home, several items authorities believe were used to create the devices were allegedly purchased and stolen from his local Bunnings. The items found during the search were spread throughout the location. There wasn't any sort of deception or concealment that we discovered. Police swooped on the suspect at a unit in Gungahlin around 10.30 last night. They say they were tipped off by members of the public. The 41-year-old will face court tomorrow charged with the unauthorised manufacture of a prohibited dangerous substance, possessing a prohibited weapon and theft. Police not yet ruling out the possibility of further charges. Anyone who does come across any device that they might suspect, maybe an explosive, to not touch it and call police immediately.
