The first day of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) test began with a tribute honoring police, emergency responders, and Ahmed El Ahmed, a tobacco shop owner recognized for his bravery in subduing a gunman. Crowds gathered early, with fans and rival cricket clubs uniting to support the McGrath Foundation's fundraising campaign, aiming to sell 480,000 virtual pink seats to benefit families affected by cancer.

Volunteers and attendees shared personal stories of loss and support received from McGrath Cancer Care nurses. The Foundation hopes to support 8,000 families if the fundraising goal is met, while fans expressed optimism for a full five-day test match after previous short games.

Feeling good, looking forward to a good day of test cricket, hopefully no rain. Fans filed in under the watchful eye of police before a welcome party at the front gate. Rival clubs the Richies and the Bamiyami finding harmony in support of the McGrath Foundation. We've set a lofty goal of selling 480,000 seats, our virtual pink seats, with every single seat making a difference to a family's life. If the McGrath Foundation reaches its fundraising goal, it will mark its biggest year yet, enough to support 8,000 families through cancer. Among the volunteers today, McGrath nurse Samantha Moores, who was reunited with loved ones of her patient Sue. Today would have been my sister's 66th birthday. Two years ago was a pretty tough year for us, dad passed away from brain cancer and then three months later mum passed away. The care that the nurses and the McGrath Foundation had for them was truly incredible. Hearing everyone else's stories and knowing the valuable care that the McGrath Cancer Care nurses do provide really does make a difference. And among the tens of thousands of fans, the pink power was strong, all holding hope that after two short tests, Sydney will break the mould. Looking forward to the next hopefully five days.
