Southwest Airlines says it plans to hire fewer pilots and flight attendants. Well, United says it'll cut back on hiring pilots this summer. It is overblown. Aviation expert and former pilot Kit Darby says because the economy is doing well, airlines are profitable and want to expand on their success by adding more routes and equipment. But there's a caveat. Often they overdo that and we end up with too much supply and airlines lose money and are in trouble pulling in the reins on uh, equipment personnel. Um, those aren't necessarily bad things in the long run. The issues with Boeing and its rival Airbus, which has also slowed production because of engine issues means airlines can't expand as quickly as they'd like. Travel industry analyst Henry Hartfeld said that could snarl summer travel plans. It may mean fewer flights and fewer seats available for the summer. That leads to fewer, generally fewer fares sold at the cheapest price points. Relief may be a few years away. Delta's ceo told Bloomberg it expects deliveries of Boeing's new 7 37 max 10 may be delayed for three years. Both Hartfeld and Darby say Boeing's planes are incredibly safe, adding that airlines can rely on maintaining older airplanes until new fleets arrive. But some passengers are still in a holding pattern, allowing that to go through quality control like that and goes in, you know, he won't look like it's unacceptable. It really is. While all of Boeing's planes are still cleared to fly, the FAA has ordered Boeing to submit a plan addressing its production issues by late May.
