Newly released police body camera footage shows a Southwest Airlines pilot being questioned and removed from a flight in Savannah, Georgia, after officers suspected he was intoxicated. The pilot, identified as Captain David Alsop, admitted to having consumed alcohol the night before, but stated it had been at least ten hours since his last drink, which is within the Federal Aviation Administration's minimum requirement of eight hours.

TSA officers reported the pilot smelled of alcohol, prompting police to administer a field sobriety test, which officers say he failed. Alsop declined a blood test and was escorted from the airport. Southwest Airlines confirmed the pilot was immediately removed from duty and is no longer employed by the company. Alsop's attorney disputes the validity of the sobriety test and claims proper procedures were not followed.

The first time we are seeing the moment when a Southwest Airlines pilot was removed from a flight on suspicion of being intoxicated. This happened back in January in Savannah, Georgia. Police say when they arrived at the gate, the pilot was in the cockpit doing pre flight checks before the plane was to depart for Chicago. Chris Van Cleve has more. Morning, sir. Hawaii. Okay. Yeah. Newly released police body camera video from January 15th shows Savannah Airport police questioning Southwest Captain David also on the jet bridge. Just minutes earlier, he'd walked through the gate and onto a 7 37 full of passengers. He was scheduled to fly to Chicago. How many drinks did you have? A few beers to find a few beers. A few years to find a few beers. It's free. Also told officers it had been at least 10 hours since he'd had a drink. The F. A. A. Requires a minimum of at least eight. But T. S. A. Officers called police after he passed through the checkpoint seen here on airport security video. The T. S. A. Officers reported also smelled of alcohol. I'm gonna move it back and forth, prompting police to give him a field sobriety test, which officers say he failed before declining a blood test. Seriously? Yes, sir. How do they feel? Good. The signs that you exhibited during those three tests, I'm able to articulate based off those and the odor coming off of your person. It's very consistent with the Y. Officers let him off the jet bridge and out of the airport. Southwest says also was removed from duty immediately after the alleged incident and is no longer employed by Southwest Airlines. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees. But all sops attorney tells CBS News the body camera video confirms what should be obvious to anyone who watches it. Captain also committed no crime, claiming experts who have reviewed the video have concluded that the tests that led to his arrest were not performed correctly and that the proper procedures were not followed.
