Millions are under extreme heat alerts across the Great Lakes and Northeast starting this weekend as a blistering heat wave sets up in the regions. Highs will be up to 20 degrees above average.

A significant heat wave is affecting the Northeastern United States and the Great Lakes region, with millions under extreme heat alerts. High pressure is driving temperatures to levels up to 20 degrees above normal, with cities such as Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, and others expected to experience highs near or above 100 degrees.

Meteorologists caution that the heat could break historical records in multiple locations, including Columbus, Cleveland, Chicago, and Louisville. Residents are advised to take precautions, especially those without air conditioning, as the heat wave is expected to persist across the region.
