Blacktown and Liverpool hospitals are experiencing significant challenges, with only half of patients rating their care as very good, which is below the state average. Concerns have been raised about the organisation of care, staff collaboration, and cleanliness, with nearly half of patients expressing dissatisfaction in these areas.

Despite nine out of ten patients rating their overall hospital experience as good or very good statewide, the results for Blacktown and Liverpool highlight ongoing issues, particularly in Western and South Western Sydney. Longer hospital stays are linked to lower satisfaction, and average admission durations remain above pre-pandemic levels. In response, measures such as the implementation of safe staffing levels and the recruitment of additional nurses are being introduced to address these challenges.

Understaffed, under pressure and now under fire. The morale for our members is low at the moment. Only half of patients at Blacktown and Liverpool hospitals have ranked the care they received as very good, significantly lower than the state average. How well organised that care was and the staff's collaboration as a team also alarming. That's our members working their guts out to deliver services under a lot of strain. You don't expect first class, world class hospitals to be having almost half their patients saying these hospitals aren't very clean. Overall, nine out of 10 patients are rating their experience good or very good in our hospitals. But we know there's room for improvement, particularly in West and South Western Sydney. The longer patients remained in hospital, the less likely they were to rate their care positively. An overnight episode averaging a six day long admission. That length of stay sits above pre-pandemic levels and hasn't come down in four years. Westmead, today the latest hospital to implement safe staffing levels, bringing the state's total to 40 EDs. By the end of this term, we'll see probably close to an extra 2,000 nurses in our system providing that care. I think that will go a long way to dealing with some of the challenges that we have in our hospitals at the moment. And their commitment was to roll across five areas. Will we get the five areas in this term of government? Not at the current pace.
