Cartoon icon Hello Kitty is appearing in person this weekend at the Bay Area's first Hello Kitty Cafe. Fans lined up early Friday morning at the Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara where it was a sea of pink in anticipation of the cafe's offerings.

Bay Area gets its first Hello Kitty Cafe

of a beloved cartoon character turned out in the South Bay very early this morning for the Bay Area's first Hello Kitty Cafe. It opened its doors at Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara and it was a sea of pink as people lined up to enjoy the cafe's offerings including strawberry lemonade, plenty of desserts as well, and we spoke with some of the first people in line. One group said they got to the mall around 4.30 this morning just for a chance to get some of those giveaways. We are collectors of Hello Kitty, the boo-boos, we love pendants, all that cute stuff. Yeah, we're just super excited because we've been waiting for this place to open for like two years and so we're really excited that it's finally open and, you know, we can see all the Hello Kitty stuff and, yeah, we're excited. The cafe also offers a special afternoon tea service in the Bow Room. Hello Kitty herself will be on hand all weekend long to take photos with fans. Alameda Brewing is celebrating 10 years of craft beer and community. The East Bay Brewery is throwing a three-day party for the anniversary. It kicks off tonight with a special VIP hour where guests can be the first to try out some new beers. Earlier on the 9, we spoke live with the owner and general manager and the head brewer about what else is on tap including a new hazy IPA called Basic Beach. We've got a three-day celebration this weekend and it's free to attend. We've got live music, we've got carnival games, we've got beer releases right here that we can highlight a little bit. This looks like a beer oasis, gents. So, Justin, what are some of the new beers you've built? This is our Juicy IPA. So, still has some of those West Coast components, a little dry, a little dinky, but at the same time you pick up a lot of those like overripe papaya and guava. Of course, also our Sal Castaneda got a little taste of that beer. The Alameda Brewing taproon is on Park Street near Buena Vista Avenue and the 10th anniversary festival runs all weekend long. There is a new fast way to get across the Bay. The Blue and Gold Fleet launched its rocket boat today. The company says its 30-minute ride offers unbeatable views of the sea lines at Pier 39 and of San Francisco's waterfront including the skyline, the Bay Bridge and Alcatraz. So much good happening here. You can fly above the Bay on the Skywheel. You can now fly across the Bay in the rocket boat. The rocket boat will be docked at Pier 39. 7-Eleven is celebrating its 98th birthday with free Slurpees. The drinks will be available at thousands of stores nationwide until about 7 o'clock tonight. You've got about an hour left. If you can't make it in person though, 7-Eleven is offering a discount when you order through their app. The convenience store chain has been giving away free Slurpees every July 11th since 2002.
