During the incident, thieves used a truck with a lift and left equipment behind after puncturing fuel tanks. Amid the chaos, a guard discovered Empress Eugenie's crown, believed to be a main target of the thieves, which was dropped as the suspects fled. 

Investigators have noted the operation required significant planning and precision, leading to speculation that information about the museum's security may have been provided by an insider. Around 100 investigators are currently working to identify the crew and any accomplices involved in the robbery, which occurred during daylight hours at one of the world's busiest museums.

Guard Frédéric Serrier was in the middle of his shift on Sunday morning when the thieves struck. The truck with the lift was still right there. They had left all their equipment behind. They had punctured the fuel tanks. In the midst of the chaos, he found Empress Eugenie's crown, one of the main pieces authorities believe the thieves were after. I'm certain that it was the thieves' panic at seeing our colleagues arrive that made them lose their composure. As they climbed back over the balcony railing, they dropped the crown. Investigators say the heist would have required military precision. And now, according to media reports, sources close to Parisian authorities believe the plotters may have had help from someone on the inside and given information about the museum's security system, the raid bringing more tourists to the bustling attraction, the window the thieves broke through, capturing plenty of attention. I'm not sure it's quite the Mona Lisa, but it's a stop. It's a new one too, so it's nice to see. It'd be nice to find a few diamonds that they may have missed or dropped on the way out. Around 100 investigators are mapping the crew and any accomplices to try and piece together just how one of the world's busiest attractions was robbed in broad daylight. Brendan Smith, 10 News.
