Surveillance footage captured the moment a 23-year-old man confronted a suspect attempting to break into his car, leading to shots being fired. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Neighbors noted a delay in the police response, with officers arriving about ten hours after the incident occurred. The car owner was taken into custody, while police continue to search for the other individual involved. Residents highlighted the difficulty in distinguishing gunfire from fireworks, which is a frequent occurrence in the area.

It unfolded in Milwaukee's Jackson Park neighborhood just after 12 30 this morning. But neighbors like Wayne say they didn't see police investigating until just after 10 this morning. He shared with our Mike beer Meister what may have factored into a delayed response. What you're looking at is the aftermath of what police say was an attempted car break in near 36th and Lakefield. It led to an exchange of gunfire that was all caught on camera. Surveillance video obtained by TMJ four shows the moment to 23 year old man confronts someone attempting to break into his car. That's when he shines a light on the vehicle parked behind. Then gunfire erupts. The car peels off. Police say the shooting happened thursday morning around 12 30 a.m. Thankfully no one was hurt. But neighbors told us they didn't see police investigating until 10 hours later blocking off the surrounding area. That was a little sleep. You know, my phone went off and that's when I first saw timing that matches with the Milwaukee police call logs that show the first response to this neighborhood came at 10 14 in the morning. Wayne Hosking lives just down the road. It's like, oh my God, it's like it's not good. He tells me while gunfire is not common around his block, fireworks are people are just numbed by the fireworks and they're thinking that everything that they hear is fireworks. So you can't differentiate if it's a real gunshot or not. Other neighbors I spoke with off camera described a similar almost daily issue, especially during the summer. I don't have that kind of year that I can tell the difference besides what's going on. The Milwaukee Police Department spent into the afternoon investigating. They took the 23 year old owner of the car into custody. I went to try and speak with him later about the situation, but no one answered as police continue to search for the other person involved. Hosking helps people cool it on the fireworks in order to prevent a bad situation like this one from getting worse. I just wish that they would just rein it in, you know, use some common sense and be aware of other people in Milwaukee. Mike Beermeister TMJ four news.
