Swiatek, who has dominated the women's game with five major titles, is also making her debut in a Wimbledon final. The two players have not previously met on the professional tour, setting up a new and intriguing matchup. Swiatek's strong serving and experience in major finals contrast with Anisimova's aggressive style and recent resurgence.

Joining us now from London, tennis expert Christopher Clary, the author of The Warrior, Rafael Nadal and his Kingdom of Clay. Christopher, thank you so much for joining us. Amanda, what a storyline. She failed to reach the main draw last year. Now she's in a Wimbledon final. I mean, how has she done it? Yeah, Patrick, she's done it above all with that baseline talent, which is really, really high. I mean, I met Amanda when she was 15 years old. I mean, she's 23 now. The American tennis experts in the Federation were already talking about her back then as a potential Grand Slam champion. She has this incredible easy power, very reminiscent of a player like Lindsay Davenport back in the day. She can just create with these not such big swings, just amazing amounts of pace. And it has great timing. One of the best backhands, probably the best backhand in the woman's game, which is saying something. And then she's been able to put the mental game together in the last couple of years after that break she took for her mental health. She lost her father who died young, who was also her coach, set her back quite a while and needed a lot of time to recover from that. But she is playing beautiful tennis. And I've always felt she got to the semis of the French Open on the clay when she was 17. But I always felt the grass with her flat strokes and her big serve and her love of the short point was going to maybe be her best surface. And it's looking pretty close to that this week, I'll tell you that. Yeah, really inspiring. Let's dig a little deeper because that win comes about 18 months, year and a half or so after that months long break she did take away from tennis. Speak more to her character, her grit and all she's been through to get to this point because she's overcome an awful lot. Yeah, I mean, it actually was it was a longer break than that. It was it was several months and it really wasn't clear to her agent or her, you know, her team that she would be able to come back. I know she intended to, but you just never know. I think she really was depressed as in a dark place. A lot of it, I'm sure, had to do with the death of her father, which was very sudden that happened just before the 2019 U.S. Open. She had reached the French Open semis. She was in a great place with her game and then her father passed and she was really reeling for a long time. I interviewed her for The New York Times and was really struck by it and how tough it was going to be for her to get out of that. And I think she's done a great job and it's good to see her happy out there on the court again and handling her nerves better. And it's been a long road. But I think that break that she took for mental health was was critical in her in her progression. She's a remarkable storyline and person as well. She faces Igor Shvantek in the final. And we know Igor just loves strawberry and pasta. How is the Polish player fueled for success? Is she eyes up? What would be a first Wimbledon title? Patrick, whatever the culinary choice, whatever is working for her, she should stick with it. You know, pasta, whatever you like, you know, whatever she does. This has been her been her year so far. She's playing at a really high level, serving extremely well, getting great pace on her serve. I think she's holding serve more than any other player in the woman's game. And today, Bencic is a tough player, was an excellent foreman and an eager, really steamroller, just took control of the rallies early and was just relentless. So look like pretty prime Igor Shvantek. And interestingly, she and Amanda and Anissimova have never played on the tour. Last time they played was in a junior event, junior Fed Cup long ago. So this will be brand new for both of them to face each other. It's a good contrast in styles. But Igor has a lot more experience in major finals with five five titles than Amanda Anissimova, who's a rookie at this level. Yeah, it'll be fascinating to see how it all plays out. Really looking forward to that one. Really looking forward to Friday. All eyes on the men's semis. Carlos Alcaraz, defending champ, meets Taylor Fritz of the USA. Djokovic, Sinner in the other semi. Who's meeting who in the final and why? What do you say? You know, I say it's a rematch of the French Open final. That was an amazing match. Sinner, Alcaraz, number one against number two again on the grass. But, you know, both Fritz and Djokovic are very capable of changing that prediction. Taylor Fritz has gone under the radar here. He's back in this in the deep end of a grand slam. First time in the semis at Wimbledon, he got to the US Open final last year. He's playing very, very clean tennis. He's a big server, big hitter, really informed. He could definitely threaten Alcaraz if Alcaraz is not sharp. Best Alcaraz will beat the best Fritz, I think, without a doubt. And obviously, Carlos has won the last two Wimbledons and is on a long winning streak after winning in Paris. That great comeback against Sinner. Sinner, Djokovic. Sinner's had Djokovic's number of late. He's kind of a very similar sort of player to Novak, tight to the baseline, big, big hitter, just relentless as well. But he's never beaten Novak at Wimbledon, lost both their matches before. And this is Novak at age 38. This is probably his last really, really great chance to win a major. And he's two matches away from number 25. And, you know, it would be a great achievement. He'd be the oldest man in the open era to win a major singles title if he pulls it off at 38.
