Amazon fulfillment centers in the Kansas City area have experienced a significant increase in orders during the Prime Day sales event, with local facilities processing 62% more orders than usual.

Amazon fulfillment centers in the Kansas City region have reported a substantial rise in activity during the Prime Day sales period. One facility alone processed 406,000 orders, representing a 62% increase compared to a typical week. Amazon employs 8,500 people directly in the area, not including third-party delivery drivers. 

To help customers keep their packages safe, Amazon recommends monitoring delivery windows, using security cameras, consolidating deliveries on a specific day, and utilizing secure pickup locations. The surge in orders is attributed to extended Prime Day deals and increased customer demand for discounts.

You've done all your personal shopping the last three days. Now you can focus forward a little bit, maybe a Christmas shopping today. What? It's a good idea. It's budgeting. I don't care. Get out of here with that case. HB 41 News reporter Claire Bradshaw live inside the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Shawnee this morning. They've been busy and it's crazy to see. I mean, these are places you might drive by all the time, but there's a lot going on inside. Yeah. Good morning, you guys. This is just one of 12 Amazon facilities in the Kansas City area. The first one came to Lenexa in 2014. That's the sorting center. The latest one was the Liberty Extra Large Fulfillment Center that was built in 2023. So Amazon, they employ 8500 people directly in the Kansas City area, and that's not including those third party delivery drivers, things like that. So I'm here with Andy Diorio. He works for Amazon. Andy, we're talking about packages being delivered out of here, but people are also wanting to make sure that they're making it to their front door. What can they do to do that? Right. So here's four easy ways to keep your packages safe when you're ordering for Prime Day. Number one, pay attention to the delivery window. It's on every order, so you know when exactly it will arrive. Make sure you're home when that happens. Number three, you can order everything to be delivered on a certain day of the week. So it's like Christmas on a Monday or Tuesday. Everything comes at once. And did you say there's been an increase this year in Prime Day deliveries? How does that work? Yeah, so this deliberation alone a normal week will see about 250 orders come through. But this week we've already seen 406,000 orders. That's an increase of 62%. So what we're seeing is just why we extended prime base to the customer demand and provide that midsummer relief for everyone's budgets. Bottom line. Everybody's looking for a deal, and today is the last day for that deal.
