Amazon has recently established a new division within its Amazon Web Services (AWS) branch, focusing on Agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI). The announcement comes amid Amazon's broader push to harness AI technologies across different sectors, as outlined in the company's latest annual letter penned by CEO Andy Jassy. In this letter, Jassy shared his optimism about the future directions Amazon is pursuing, particularly emphasizing the transformative impact of generative AI on customer experiences.

Further details on this strategic move were provided by Swami Sivasubramanian, the leader of Amazon's new AI unit, in a conversation with CNBC. He highlighted that Amazon has been integrating AI into many facets of its operations. Notably, the implementation of the Amazon Q developer agent last year resulted in significant improvements, including saving over 4,500 developer years and reducing capital expenditures by more than $250 million. 

These advancements underscore Amazon's commitment to leveraging AI to optimize its processes and enhance customer interactions. The focus on Agentic AI is expected to further propel Amazon's capabilities in the tech landscape, reinforcing its position as a leader in AI-driven innovation.



Amazon forms new unit focused on Agentic AI

We are live in Seattle this morning at Amazon's headquarters because this morning the company publishing its annual letter and we're going to have an opportunity to spend some time with Andy Jassy, the CEO and author of that letter. This is what he's writing this morning. He says that he's quote optimistic about the progress and potential of our existing businesses. A key theme of the letter is Amazon's effort to operate as quote the world's largest startup as it takes on artificial intelligence in the tech race. Jassy writing that quote generative AI is going to reinvent virtually every customer experience that we know. And Amazon is investing aggressively in this new technology. Last month Amazon formed a brand new unit at AWS that is dedicated to agentic AI. And yesterday CBC spoke to the leader of this new unit about how the tech giant is leaning in to the technology. Within Amazon we have been embracing AI and almost every aspect of what you do what we do. Last year we used our Amazon Q developer agent to upgrade our Java software internally which saved the company more than 4500 developer years and more than 250 million dollars in capex savings. Joe they're not doing C++ anymore. So it's you know. I've used that. I've used the AI assistant that they have on Amazon. It's pretty awesome because you can check out to find out what the ingredients are and things like I was trying to make sure that some sunscreen for your lips didn't have gluten zone. No I think there's you want mineral based sunscreens. I was using it was real helpful with some of the things I was going through because it's hard to find that stuff naturally in the air assistant help.
