Australia, along with 23 other countries, has called for Israel to fully resume humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza. However, Australia did not join a separate, more forceful statement by the United Kingdom, France, and Canada that threatened sanctions. Labor backbencher Ed Husic has also voiced concerns, suggesting Australia should take a stronger stance. The international community's pressure on Israel appears to be increasing as the situation continues.

Albanese criticises Israel over Gaza aid blockade

Ursula, the Prime Minister has been strong, saying that the excuses and explanations provided by Israel are untenable. Now this is over Israel blocking aid into Gaza, food and supplies like medicine, which Anthony Albanese has slammed as outrageous. He says that people are starving. After nearly 80 days of an aid blockade, Israel has let some trucks with supplies cross into Gaza but the United Nations says the amount is woefully insufficient to meet the demand and the Prime Minister agrees. Israel's actions are completely unacceptable. It is outrageous that there be a blockade of food and supplies to people who are in need in Gaza. Last week Australia joined 23 other countries in releasing a joint statement calling on Israel to allow a full resumption of aid into Gaza immediately. But there was a stronger statement issued by the United Kingdom, France and Canada that Australia wasn't part of. That statement threatened sanctions if Israel didn't allow more aid into Gaza. And Labor backbencher Ed Husic, who was the first and only Muslim in the Albanese government's cabinet before he was dumped in this second term, has been critical, saying that Australia should be doing more. There seems to be mounting pressure on Israel from the international community and that Israel is becoming increasingly isolated.
