Her later years were marked by both admiration for her advocacy and controversy due to her public statements and convictions for inciting racial hatred. Despite numerous scandals and a complex legacy, Bardot remained unapologetic about her life and choices.

Cast at 18 as the uninhibited Juliet in And God Created Woman, a hot new star was born. Do you really enjoy making this kind of film, or do you want to be a serious actress? Oh, no, I prefer this kind of film. I will be a serious actress when I will be older. But older, all of 39, she abruptly quit acting to advocate for animal rights. Bardot was admired by many for her campaigning against luxury furs and Canada's baby seal hunt. But a darker side emerged. The former sex kitten veered hard right. She insulted gay men and Muslims living in France. Five times she was convicted of inciting racial hatred. But at the end of her life, after more than nine decades, over 50 films, four husbands and countless scandals, Brigitte Bardot was unrepentant.
