French police have arrested five more individuals linked to the recent daylight robbery at the Louvre museum in Paris, where jewelry once belonging to French royalty was stolen. The suspects were identified through DNA evidence, and two have partially admitted their involvement in the crime, which involved scaling the museum facade and breaking through a window.

Authorities have not yet recovered the stolen jewels, valued at over $100 million, and are investigating whether a larger group or mastermind remains at large. The incident has raised concerns about security measures at the Louvre, one of the world's most renowned art institutions.

At a press conference yesterday, the French prosecutor said the two suspects who've been charged were identified through their DNA and have now partially admitted their involvement in the brazen daylight robbery. A team of perpetrators used a basket lift to scale the facade of the Louvre museum, broken through a window and made off with jewellery once worn by French royalty, valued at over a hundred million dollars. Do you believe that either of the two men who were charged was the ringleader or is the mastermind still at large? We do not exclude the possibility of a larger group, the prosecutor told us, with the person who ordered the heist and who's the receiver of the stolen jewels. It's not clear if that person is now in police custody. Both of the suspects who've been charged have criminal records and are in their thirties. One of them was arrested just before flying to Algeria in northern Africa. In France we have an expression... Joseph Cohen Saban is a well-known criminal defence lawyer here in France. He told us the thieves made some obvious mistakes, including leaving their belongings at the crime scene. They are professional robbers but according to me it's the first time they are in this kind of place. You mean they're career criminals but they've never tried to pull off anything this big before? Yes, I think. This case has sparked outrage in France because of lax security at the Louvre, home to some of the world's most important art.
