The parents of 16-year-old Kanowa Wilson, who was shot and killed by San Diego police officer Daniel Gold, have reached a $30 million settlement with the city. The family's attorney states this is believed to be the largest settlement for a police killing in U.S. history. 

Body camera footage from January shows Wilson running from gunfire before being shot by Officer Gold. The family maintains Wilson did not threaten anyone and was shot twice in the back. The settlement, which surpasses the amount awarded in the George Floyd case, is pending approval by the San Diego City Council.

Wilson was running away from gunshots fired by someone else when he bolted out in front of gold who quickly opened fire on him. Wilson's family sued saying the teenager never threatened anyone. They say gold shot the boy twice in the back. A handgun was found when officers were performing CPR, but the video release doesn't show the teen fired the gun or was holding it when gold shot at him. This is higher than the $27 million given to the family of George Floyd. The San Diego City Council has to approve this settlement that's on tomorrow's agenda.
