A 10-foot alligator has been safely relocated after being removed from Eagle Mountain Lake Thursday.

A large alligator, measuring approximately 10 and a half feet and weighing nearly 300 pounds, was removed from Eagle Mountain Lake in North Texas after being seen close to homes. Residents, including local musician Mike Mancy, had noticed the alligator in the area for several days, prompting wildlife experts to set a trap.

After an initial attempt to capture the animal failed, the alligator was eventually caught in the trap and safely relocated to a nature reserve. The removal allowed residents to return to their routines, with Mancy expressing relief and appreciation for the safe handling of the animal.

It was right around these bushes here, right on this side. North Texas-based musician Mike Mancy's home backs right up to Eagle Mountain Lake. Now most days, Mancy's music gigs keep him busy. But Monday was quite different. As in near 300-pound alligator different. Sorry, I just kept calling him a big dude. This 10-and-a-half foot long reptile had been spotted by neighbors for quite some time. And recently, big dude got a little too close for comfort. They already had a trap set because that gator was already in the area for a couple days. And someone made a phone call and said, this gator's really close. A group of wildlife experts snapped right to it. Then they immediately rushed out. And they came around with little boats and stuff to try to find him. And they found him a few minutes later across on the other side of the dock. It took some effort. They snagged him at once and then just tried to get him to come in. And he snapped the line. And so later that night, he got in the trap. And they have a bait in there. So got him. Mancy describes how it went from there. Four of us pulled him out of the cage. And he didn't want to come out, of course. And just kept backing up. And we all were pulling with all our might. And it was a tug-of-war game that we almost lost. I mean, they were sliding down the hill trying to get in there. And he's pulling at us. And finally, we got him out enough to put the bag over his head. He was right underneath that dock over there. Now the scaly friend they call Big Dude is at an area known as a nature reserve. And Mancy? He can once again focus on music. Perhaps even write a song about big gators. It was all right. I love gators. So I love all wildlife. So it was a good thing for him to get out.
