A collection of sacred First Nations artifacts, including embroidered gloves and a cradle board, has been returned from the Vatican to Canada after years of negotiations. The return follows a 2022 meeting with Pope Francis and a private viewing of the items by Indigenous leaders. 

Five items were publicly displayed during a ceremony in Gatineau, Quebec, while others remain private until their community of origin can be identified. National Chief Cindy Woodhouse-Nipinak emphasized the ongoing work to identify and repatriate additional items, with further discussions planned with Vatican officials.
