Contreras, an Army veteran with a family, described maxed-out credit cards and mounting bills, including a $1,700 payment due soon, not counting rent and electricity. He noted that even with a paycheck expected next week, hardship may persist for TSA officers, as previous shutdowns delayed back pay for several pay periods.
