Recent data from the International Organization for Migration indicates that more than 39,000 cases of human trafficking have been recorded in Europe. The majority of victims are adults, particularly women, and most cases involve forced labour or sexual exploitation. 

Experts caution that the actual number of trafficking victims is likely much higher due to underreporting and gaps in detection. Victims are most commonly from Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus, and traffickers use various forms of abuse and control to exploit them.
