Previously, a district court judge had blocked the policy, describing it as a "de facto blanket prohibition" on the service of transgender individuals. However, the Supreme Court's recent decision only addresses whether the injunction could remain pending further litigation, not the merits of the case itself. The Court's three liberal justices reportedly opposed lifting the injunction.

There remains ongoing legal proceedings in other courts. Notably, a district court in Washington, D.C., placed a preliminary injunction on the ban, which is currently under review by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to determine whether it should be made permanent. This indicates that the issue remains unresolved at the judicial level and the final outcomes are yet to be determined.
