Sara García Alonso, a molecular biologist from Spain, is one of 17 participants selected from over 22,000 applicants for the European Space Agency's astronaut training program. She is currently training in Germany, learning skills such as survival in harsh conditions and simulating microgravity to prepare for a potential mission to space.

If selected for a mission, García Alonso would become the first Spanish woman to travel to space. Her training is set to conclude at the end of May 2026, after which she will await assignment from the European Space Agency.
