The election saw Grégoire comfortably defeat conservative rival Rachida Dati. Elsewhere in France, the far-right National Rally Party fell short in Marseille but secured several smaller towns, while the hard left and conservatives also made gains. The results are viewed as an indicator for political parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election, in which Emmanuel Macron is ineligible to run.
