The central United States, which has experienced weeks of drought, is forecast to receive several rounds of rain and thunderstorms in the coming days. While this will bring much-needed relief to dry areas, the storms also carry the risk of severe weather and localized flooding, especially in regions from Springfield to Chicago.

Three separate storm systems are expected to impact the area, with the heaviest rainfall and highest risk of severe weather along the I-35 corridor and into the Midwest. The storms will progress northeastward, affecting areas from Saginaw to northern Arkansas, and are likely to continue into the weekend.
