Apple faces increasing pressure over tariffs as President Trump intensifies calls for the company to alter its supply chain strategies. According to CNBC's Steve Kovach, Apple has not provided a public response to the latest remarks from the president. However, it is noted that Apple CEO Tim Cook and President Trump met at the White House recently to discuss the issue.

Apple previously stated it incurred a $900 million charge due to tariffs in the recent financial quarter. The company has been shifting production of iPhones destined for the U.S. market to India, while other products like MacBooks, watches, and AirPods are sourced from Vietnam to mitigate tariff impacts. Shifting production to the United States is considered significantly more expensive, with estimates suggesting that an iPhone manufactured in the U.S. could cost between $1,500 and $3,500, compared to current prices starting at approximately $700.

Analysts at Wells Fargo have projected that moving iPhone production to India could increase unit costs by $100 to $300, which is less expensive than absorbing a 25% tariff. Reports indicate Apple is further investing in Indian manufacturing, with $1.5 billion committed to a new Foxconn facility aimed at expanding production capacity there. No indications suggest Apple will begin manufacturing iPhones in the United States in the near term.

Industry sources also highlight the challenge of replicating the scale and skilled labor available in China and India, which the U.S. workforce currently cannot match. The complexity of iPhone manufacturing is cited as a barrier to automation, making relocation of production logistically and economically difficult.

Apple's shares have reportedly declined following the latest developments.
