A significant shift in weather patterns is bringing much-needed precipitation to the western United States. Cooler air and increased storm activity are resulting in rain and snow from the Cascades through the high Sierra, with moisture also reaching Utah and Colorado after a notably dry winter.

Forecasts indicate that rain and high-elevation snow will continue through the week, with up to an inch or two of rain and possibly a foot of snow in the high Sierra. This precipitation is expected to benefit areas that have experienced below-average snowfall this season.
