Premier Ford highlighted the interconnectedness of the U.S. and Canadian economies, citing examples such as lumber, automobiles, and pharmaceuticals, which are major trade items that would be impacted by the tariffs. He warned that increased prices could affect American families, particularly those on fixed incomes, and predicted potential job losses, labeling the tariffs as "Termination Day."

Ford acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the current trade negotiations and underscored the need for stability and cooperation between the two nations. He expressed optimism for renegotiating trade agreements to secure a stable economic environment, which he believes would encourage investment and economic growth. The Canadian government, represented by Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly, has also voiced reluctance to engage in ongoing, tumultuous trade negotiations with the U.S., calling for a more predictable trade relationship.
