The Freedom in the World Report, released by Freedom House, indicates that global freedom has declined for the 20th consecutive year, with political rights and civil liberties worsening in 54 countries and improving in just 35. Only 21% of the world's population now live in countries rated as free, a significant drop from 46% two decades ago.

The United States was one of only three countries rated free to see a decline in its score last year, dropping by three points due to factors such as partisan gridlock, executive overreach, and weakened anti-corruption safeguards. The report recommends engaging younger generations online to strengthen support for democracy and civil liberties.
