The Chinese-funded project is expected to reach the Uganda border by June of the following year, aiming to reduce road congestion, lower transport costs, and boost transnational trade. Kenyan officials plan to transfer heavy cargo from roads to the railway and petroleum products to pipelines. However, the project has contributed to Kenya's debt to China, with further credit from Beijing contingent on the completion of the line to Uganda.
