Moore, a mother of two and U.S. Army veteran, was also charged with possession of controlled substances after obtaining the drugs online and being hospitalized for severe pain, which led to the delivery and subsequent death of a premature infant.

Legal experts note this is the first known case in Georgia where a woman faces such charges for terminating her own pregnancy under the state's abortion ban. Advocates point out that the law primarily targets providers, not pregnant individuals, and caution against broad interpretations. Moore is currently held without bond as a hearing is scheduled, and the case is expected to test the boundaries of Georgia's abortion legislation.
